What delicacy and how many carats fine gold should we have our jewelry made of?

In our country, fourteen and eighteen carats fine alloyed gold is the most common. Alloying is needed, since pure gold is too soft and malleable. By adding other metals it will be harder, and we are able to produce different coloured raw material too.

Eighteen carat fine alloyed gold has a higher finesse, since it has more gold in it than the other one. While it’s used for casual jewelry mostly, fourteen carats fine gold is good for everyday use jewelry, thanks to its hardness. Since we wear the engagement rings all day, it’s practical to choose fourteen carats fine alloy for them.

If I have jewels I got bored of or if they are impossible to fix is it possible to bring them to have them melt in order to spare the price of the material?

Naturally, yes. The jewel won’t be made at once from the materials handed over; it has to go through „reconstruction”. Via this metallurgy method, the fine gold content of the given gold will be obtained, and then it can be alloyed to the desired delicacy and colour. For example, it’s possible to make a pair of white gold marriage rings, even if the provided gold has yellow, red or mixed colours.

What precious stones should our jewelry be decorated with?

Since engagement jewelry is of symbolical value and is often passed down by generations our belief is that we shouldn’t be satisfied with the cheapest solution possible. We should try and make sure our jewelry is made of valuable, precious materials to their last detail. It is not advised to use a replica or synthetic material, like zirconia, instead of a precious stone.

We don’t advise using replicas, synthetic materials or fake products like zircon to be used as a decorative stone. Picking that certain stone is important in the means of the item’s function, too. In case the product is meant to be worn in everyday life, we are ought to be aware of the stone’s hardness. This applies the most to precious stones socketed in rings.

The harder the stone is the better. For casual jewellery, we encourage choosing the softer kind of these decorative minerals, since one can take better care of them. An eye-catching colour or a famously rare stone can make every piece of jewel exciting.

Our guests should choose one that fits their personalities and tastes the best.

What are the most important things to know about diamonds?

Diamond is the hardest precious stone. Its sanctity and perpetuity makes it the symbolical stone of engagement jewelry. And because of that it’s the most valuable, since it keeps its original beauty for hundreds of years.
Its value has four important decisive factors:
– Quality and sizes of its cutting,
– Degree of its cleanness or its absence (the inclusion is a small, unique formation in the precious stone’s structure.)
– Its colour, or colourlessness,
– And its mass, which is its only exact attribute.
So it’s not enough to know about the precious stone that it can scratch glass.
Thinking that the largest is the most expensive or that the cleaner is the most decorative may also prove wrong.

Finding our way between these parameters requires serious discipline, which is being imbibed during long years. At our shop, you can ask questions and receive help, to find a diamond fitting your needs and wallet.

What other precious stones can be used, if a diamond is not affordable for us?

There are many possibilities. In colour, which is their most salient attribute, there exist a lot of different precious stones. And because of that, we won’t be starting a thorough and detailed characterization; we’ll only mention a few of the well-known stones, marked with their most typical colour:
– Ruby-red,
– Sapphire-blue,
– Emerald-green,
– Tourmaline-pink-purple-green,
– Topaz-light blue
– Amethyst-purple
– Olivine-greend

We’d like to highlight two important matters about these precious minerals:
The hardness of a precious stone is valuable information. It is important to know, since the harder it is, the longer it will serve as a beautiful decoration of our jewelry. A frayed precious stone taking up a round shape and looking like a ‘half eaten fruit drop’ is not nice in an old jewel.
Another thing is that the desired stone should match the chosen jewel’s style and material, they should form a union.

Everything depends on small details. Even in this matter, we offer our help to our customers, with our insight in jewelcrafting.

How are precious stones placed into a piece of jewelry?

Precious stones are not cemented into jewels, as most of us might think, but are mounted into them. There are many ways to do so, but the principle is similar: the metal encloses the stone to a certain extent, keeping it tight.

What is the difference between the durability of a glossy, a matt or a rough manufactured surface?

A glossy and a matt surface give a lovely contrast when put next to each other, even more if their colours differ. And because of that, we’d all like to keep our jewels’ beauty on the same level for a long time. For that purpose it is not bad to know about the applied methods of external development.

Lustreless surfaces are made by manufacturing the metal by harder, rougher tools, resulting in balanced, microscopic furrows appearing on it. These small „metallic ridges” will unavoidably break down and smear after a while and will leave a small, shiny area behind. Thanks to this, matt surfaces get „polished” after some time.

Naturally, the rougher the surface is, the more time it will take for this to be completed, but it also depends on how careful we wear our jewels. In the case of perfectly polished surfaces, this works quite the opposite way. In the case of metals, the smoother a surface is, the shinier it is. Small scratches will appear over time, making the metal more matt, or as we say, „it comes of age”, and will keep this state.

All methods of external development, including matting and polishing can be renewed anytime. We clean and tend our works for our customers.

On which hand should we wear our wedding ring?

In different cultures, different traditions have developed about this.

Here, in Middle European cultures, the most popular of all is that at the proposal, the wedding ring is being worn on the left hand, and after the marriage it will be worn on the right.

This can prove inefficient for practical reasons, as our two ring fingers probably differ in size slightly. Meaning, a ring that fits our right hand finger, may not fit on our left hand finger.

Another belief states that we have to wear our jewelry on the left hand, since our heart is on the left side of our chest, too. Our opinion approaches this from a technical point of view: we should wear the ring on the opposite hand of we’re using for everyday tasks, so that the ring will be exposed to less action.

To the ladies, we advise not to wear the engagement ring next to the wedding ring. Jewels worn side by side abrade each other so much that its marks will be visible in a mere 5-6 years. And for that reason, the opposite hand’s ring-finger is where we should wear engagement rings.

Is it possible to adjust a ring’s size over time?

Checking the size is a delicate thing to begin with. It’s hard to find the appropriate size for a ring, since wearing the same jewel in the hot summer or in the cold winter will be a different kind of feeling.

During a single day, we can feel differences in our fingers’ diameter. These must be taken into consideration, if we want to feel comforted wearing the desired ring. For that, we are carrying out size checking with great foresight, and we also help with the decision.

The chance of altering a ring’s size is limited, but making it wider or tighter with a few numbers is possible, even with the most delicate model. Ring for women are more unbound in this matter, since most of their build allow a resizing of two, three, or even greater numbers.

What can I do if I want to order an engagement ring to my love, but I don’t know her finger size?

Grooms are always in trouble regarding this question. Our advice is the following: It’s a good idea to arrive with a ring worn by the lady, so we can gain the required knowledge via measuring it.

If there is none provided, we often start from scratch having the figure of the bride in mind, as it can give a slight impression of what sized ring she might need. Naturally, there is a chance that our speculations are wrong, but our experiences tell that this approach works out fine in use.

However we may carry out the order, it’s always the „premiere” when it comes to light whether the ring fits, or not.

Because of this, we adjust the size of gift rings for free for our clients, of course in the presence of the bride.

What should be taken into consideration when wearing jewels?

A jewel is an ornamental piece, made of noble metal. Henceforth, it is an item of serious goodwill and financial value. It must be cared for, so it can show its full beauty for long. Taking off while washing hands or bathing is advised, since soap, shampoo and different body lotions contain paraffines and greases that can deposit in small metal corrugations – especially under the precious stones – and make them blurry. In addition, loofahs or brushes can scratch the metallic surface.

It’s important to know when wearing jewelry that, even though noble metals do not oxidize, I.e. they do not enter into a reaction with their surroundings, but a few thermal waters can decolour them. It’s highly advised to leave our jewelry for safekeeping when visiting thermal baths or swimming pools, even more since a lot of people tend to lose their belongings in places like these.

Noble metals are soft materials, they are vulnerable. We should consider in what situations do we really want to wear our jewelry. We don’t need them during packing luggage; moreover they can be dangerous in these cases!

Regarding precious stones it’s good to know, that they are complicated little „creatures” made by nature, having microscopic inclusions in them, so it’s possible that having it accidentally collide with something might make it crack, or snap.

TAKA CARE OF THEM!

How to keep our jewelry clean at home?

We suggest using the most popular fat solvent on the market, Ultraderm. Car mechanics and engineers tend to use it for washing hands nowadays. It is being sold in white dishpans with green text. It’s a green, mushy substance.

Heat some water until it boils, and put a small spoonful of Ultraderm in it.
Put the jewels into the boiling water, and leave them for 15–20 minutes. Do not stir them! It can scratch the lower part of the jewels!
The active particles rich in energy do wonder cleaning out the most hidden away parts of the jewels, too.

We advise using this method for cleaning golden jewelry, for those containing precious stones, too. It cannot be used for jewelry decorated with pearls.
